Listening to Bill on 3885 with ss receiver lashed to a GRR-5 whip with a long clip lead, inside the house as he talks with Dick WA2ROC over in Durham. Signal strength between 7-8 (due to my limited aerial, no doubt) but audio is loud and clear. Dick is reporting Bill's signal at 20 over S9.

Band is long but conditions seems quiet. Probably good coast-to-coast conditions later.

304-TH - Workin' it

« Reply #1 on: February 01, 2010, 07:40:46 PM »

Tnx for report. I've been QRT on 75 a while because my 9:1 Guanella balun (50 ohm feed to 450 ohm antenna) had  smoked inside. Took a while to procure some #14 teflon wire ($1.15 a foot!) , clean off the burnt smoke, find some 3M glass-cloth insulating tape and rewind the SOB.

The 304-THs were very unhappy. La Bamba no bueno.

I have to wonder as well where the West Coast Tall Ships have been. Like Mike, KO6NM.

Anyway, radiating RF again...LOL

Working many west coast stations tonight, W6 to Oregon. 3885. WA7DAX in SLC on with a 32V-3. WD8KDG in Springfield, OR using  a GK500. Many PW breakers, too.
