For just cleaning I use denatured alcohol.  If it needs some lub then a bit of WD 40 on a Qtip following the cleaning, then exercise the switch/pot/whatever and wash with alcohol again.  Deoxit will not last long term nor will any other special conductivity products.

Sorry to hear about the power loss, that is the pits.  We usually have trouble with ice, but we missed it this time.  In the garage is a 14 KW genset on wheels.  It rolls to the throwout switch easily.  Hope the coming storm doesn't compound power problems.
