Today sucked.  I was flipping over the chassis of my Ranger I project, lost my grip, and the underside came down on the butt of a screwdriver  Cry

It cracked and trashed SW3B, the second wafer switch on the end of the Band switch.  The shaft is OK but the porcelain (or whatever it is) switch body is done for.

Can it be replaced? done anyone have a junker I can beg off, or am I done for?

I can't help you with the switch but I can swear for you;

There.  If enough of us curse then the karmic forces are such that someones mod transformer will last six months longer.

I already used a full bucket of swear words.  Lips sealed

Nice thought about glue, but the outside is busted in three bits, and the rotating bit is busted clean in two.  I think the torque would be too much for glue.

Looking at the schematic, it looks like the same switching scheme is also used for the Valiant.  (SW3B in the Ranger switches the final output network).

I have a parts Valiant and I think I probably still have the switch decks for it.  If you will email me a photo and a  measurement of the width of the switch (wafer width or diameter if it is round and the post to post spacing OC) I will check and see if the Valiant part will fit; it may be a heavier switch with different post spacing.  Even if my parts Valiant is missing this switch I will check the Valiant 2 I have on the bench and let you know if the size is the same as the Ranger so that you can expand your subject pool of donors.

Described in the parts list as SW3 Band Switch, 7 pos, 2 steat. wafers

Measures 1 1/8" from centers of the two mounting posts
Wafer is 1/8" thick

I am afraid you will have to find one from a Ranger.  The Valiant measures 1.5 inches OC for the mounting posts.

Fraser,

Is your address correct on QRZ.com?   I will drop the wafer in the mail to you on Thursday.

Fraser,
Looks like Roger has you covered on this part, but I have one here if you should need another one!
Good luck with the project and hopefully no more mishaps...

Be careful of the easily-breakable shaft coupler on the VFO dial. Shocked

It may already be broken.  The pointer moves, but it there's no feeling to it, and the variable condenser inside the VFO doesn't appear to be rotating.
