Hey Steve thanks, what a gas it was listening to that clip.  Much more fun than I anticipated.  Sounded like I was getting through better than I thought.   And at the end someone, Paul maybe, wanting to talk to me.  Any more clips like that and you'll have to start insulting me so I don't get egotistical.

You had a better signal here when we were on a few nights later on the weekend (9th or 10th)  - the night we worked Europe. Unfortunately, I didn't make a recording.

Yea, well Paul is pushy like that - always breaking in and talking on top of people. He'll never get his A1 Operators certificate doing that sort of thing.   Cry

The cool thing about this recording is that I think I was on the vertical and I had wondered how I got out with it, because I never had a full sized  1/4 w. vert. on 80 until a few months ago.  Charlie Penninger (http://www.penningerradio.com) did the design and fabrication of the mount and bottom 50 feet; I added the 15 foot stinger, guys, and 160 m. inverted L.  At the last minute I strapped on a standoff at 33 feet and hung a wire from that for 40 meters (I haven't even used that yet).   When it was lying on the ground it looked enormous and I got depressed, thinking I'd get told by the city to take it down five minutes after it got cranked up.   50 feet of 3 inch o.d. aluminum pipe.  But I thought maybe when it's vertical it won't look so bad.  On the big day we cranked it up.  Oh man.  It looked like I had Sears Tower in my back yard.  I forgot that every single antenna I  put up that was bigger than the last one made me feel like that.  The feeling goes away after a week or two.

Then there's Don's 160 m. vertical which I can actually see with Google Earth.

Do any of us here have one of those things?   Cheesy  I kind of quit expecting to ever get one years ago.   Grin

A1 OP award.  Issued by ARRL.  Anyone who operates AM is probably disqualified automatically.  Wink

The A1 operator award must be hooked up to Santa computer i.e. He knows who is good and nice. Is that how the song goes?
