Nowadays most GPS systems are map type mounted in cars. I don't know if you can program them like my old Garman GPS-12.

I would like to see if anyone can identify this area? Let me know how you found it and what type of image or ?? you received.

Using Google Earth, it is Radio Island in the middle of a lake in Upstate NY.

But you can olnly enter the first 2 numbers in latitude and longitude and then fine tune from there.

Roc, you are the closest, what I'm looking for is a map on the web somewhere or a system where you can type those numbers in and it takes you right to the spot.

I know if I whack them into my GPS 12 it will take me right there. Problem is that I would need a form of transportation to get there.

I also wonder why it's called Radio Island. Now that's identified, please let me know if you found and easy way to find it using all the numbers provided.

Are you thinking of organizing something, Terry?

Carry Falls is my home territory in northern NY and spent may days there with my dad. It is actually part of the Raquette River system and that is old Indian territory. I found a very nice Genesee Point as a 10 year old on one of the hikes right along the bank of the river and I still have it.

We even took the scouts there when I was a cubbie. We would camp along the tote road and climb Catamount Mountain which had a ranger and a big fire tower on top. He had a cool Forest Service radio that worked on a big box of those tall dry cells. They had to be humped up the mountain along with everything else. The ranger had a beautiful cabin too.

The mountain top is bare now with no sign of any of that.

I'm am going to try to find out the history of it's name for this island. Who knows, a field day or special event station may be in the works.

Mike, WU2D. My camp is about 25 miles from Lake Placid, beautiful country up there.

That lake where Radio Island is located is probably well frozen by now. One could walk out there if the wind is not blowing hard.

A note about the sites listed where you can type in the data, all seem to work it you type the information in just right. I haven't tried Paul's link yet.

I wonder if the POOLECE have a software program to figure out where someone is or does the cell phone companies provide it for them?

Fred, what is the history on Radio Island in SC? I don't believe RADIO is a family name.
