Hey Steve HUZ.  Nice to chat with you on 3.705!  Despite the lightning crashes it was very pleasant.  My 75 watts doing the job!  When the atmospherics settle down, 80 meters seems like it'll be a great band this winter for some YEA EMM activities!

Talked with KD0HG tonight and it was 599 both ways. First time I worked Bill. I heard him before but never this strong. It's about 2000 miles one way per Bill. I was on the BC-610D using a 160 meter antenna about 75-80 feet up da air.

Terry,  CW?  what freq.?  i would like to work you guys on cw and polish off my bencher/codeboy/omni 6 (not to mention my cw copying ability).  I normally op cw around once every two years so the days of copying 30 wpm in my head are long gone.

I also spoke to Bill KD0HG last night.  Weird atmospherics this time of year.  Both of us had good reports and Bill's homebrew 304TL transmitter sounded great.  Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he is a broadcast engineer by profession....

He even commented that my Apache sounded really good and asked what modifications I had made to the audio section.  Mine is Heathkit stock, no changes.

Great to hear you John. Considering that the band was rather noisy, conditions will only be better as winter rolls along.

The band was acting like an accordion, going long and short about every half hour.

Great fun. Too bad I was tired from chopping and splinting wood for about 5 hours.

Yep, early in the evening 75M has been like 20M lately.

I got on 3885 later (about 1:30AM) and talked with Joe / WA2PJP holding court with his NEWLY assembled Apache. MAIDEN Voyage. He also had a Mohawk receiver just put together.  He had the kits - and instead of looking at them in parts form, all spread out on a museum table, he assembled them for the fun.  Sounded like he was having a ball with it all.  Now there's a guy who walks to a different drummer and doesn't give a hoot about $$ value of the unbuilt kits and all that crap. My hat's off to him.

Also ran into John / KX5JT from TX for the first time - with a nice +20 signal.  Included was a relatively new but very active Joe/KP2RS from West Palm Bitch, FL. I think we'll be hearing a lot from him.

Yea, but will Joe rip out the finals and install 813s and drop 811s in the modulator. Dean needs to pay him a visit.

Grin Grin  That was Dino's DX-100.

No way. Joe's an "all stock" freak.  His Apache had the usual restricted sound - in fact I didn't recognize him until he said his call.... Grin  I wondered who that guy was.  He pampers his many stock rigs with great affection - like a harem.

F6AQK
PA1TP
9H1ES

NOW on 3885 with good signals: W1QIX Steve and W2DTC Ken!
And on mediumwave I heard many USA broadcast stations.
On 1700 khz a 'Golden Oldies station', very strong.
Evenso stations on 1660, 1640 and 1510 khz.

Someone called me last night on 3885 - a PA1BV or PA1 ? BV named either Erik or Derrik (or something like that).  He had a pretty good signal, although static was making copy very spotty.

I was not aware that operation from that part of the world was permitted on the upper portion of 80 meters, but perhaps it is!

Anyone know who this might be?

Conditions were quite good last night, except for the static - although I heard NO ONE from the West coast at all - which was somewhat surprising.  This was between about 12:00AM and 1:30AM, at which time I finally went to sleep  Wink

Henk sent over a great recording of Ken W2DTC and myself - very clear, I must say.  Conditions really were good, at least in that direction.

Regards,

Steve

I heard Steve QIX 20-40 over in the UK. WA1SSJ was also heard although weaker.
This is via Global Tuners through the internet. What a DX'er I yam. Grin Grin

Wanted to put an audio clip on there but it is too big.  I don't know how to shrink it.

Rather unlikely it was a PA1, unless the guy was booting since they aren't allocated above 3800 kHz. Or have the allocations changed? I've heard plenty of USA stations using phone below 7125 kHz on 40-meters.  Tongue
