Conditions were about as good as it gets on 160 meters last night. The band was as quiet as I've heard it all winter and signals were propagating in from longer distances well.

Listen to the clip of Chuck, W3FJJ. There is  almost no noise. And this was recorded with a 16 kHz bandwidth. Just before this, Chuck was working a station in Chicago that was rolling into the east coast nicely. Later we had a group with stations from Maine to Tennessee.

160 was open last nite out west as well...Local (200 mi) stations were in and out and mostly PW but I was hearing the mid west , Montana and Calif as well as KYV don on 1885....75 meters had an opening to the midwest and east coast as well around 0430 Z I worked  syracuse, NY  as well as Tn and AR.. all were low power stations ...The band stayed open for about 1 hr and then faded out...

I repaired the antenna today, leave the RF gain up and I'll fire up on 1885 this evening.

..i agree steve..160 has been great this winter...sometimes though, i have problems, due to hearing stations from east of me, as well as west, at the same signal strength...as well, there is a bunch out in michigan/ohio, etc. that get on in the mornings, and i can still hear them as late as 11am...

No problem Chuck. You were sounding great. You always strap but the other night was exceptional. I have some longer clip I can email to you, if you'd like.
