Our turn for freezing rain

Building up fast. We lost power at least 3 times last night.

We had some ice this morning - no power problems.  North Jersey is probably gonna get hammered.

Didn't lose power but fell flat on me bum not expecting black ice in the driveway.  I think the neighborhood heard all the 4 letter words plus my wish for global warming.

We made it thru the night until some idiot hit a pole down the street.

Power out for about 4-5 hours.

Got about 1/4"-3/8" ice around the ants.

Power and ants back full.

We had over 1/4 inch on the cars and about an inch on the ground this morning. I never even looked in the back yard this morning. I'll see what things look like in the morning daylight. We have another round coming later tonight.

This ice thing IS GETTING old!!!
Very unusual for Western Pa. We ended last Winter with the roller coaster ride in temps and excessive rain on the temp up-swing and then the temp would plummet to freezing. Good stress test for the underground utiliy pipes.

This Winter started a month earlier than in the past and now the freezing rain scenarios.

I thought we left that Washington/Baltimore WX behind.

In comparison to the December storm, this was a "walk in the park" or "status quo" by NH standards.  Getting the ice off the cars was the real PITA

Yep, and the loop wires are sagging from the ice load, if ya look closely.  You'd never know the top of that tower is 190' and the 20M beams are 60' booms. Those are the two where you, Johhny, G and I moved that day.... grunt- grunt

I keep the wire ants pretty loose all year so that I get no stretching. A few feet of stretch would ruin the tuning of the reflectors.

The 40M Yagi has lost a lot of ice today, but yesterday the elements were almost pointing at the ground. Today, one side has more ice than the other, which can spin an element on the boom. I use boom to el pins since 1998. El spin happened in the past.

So far, knock on wood, haven't lost a single antenna - aluminum or wire due to wind or ice since 1998. That's about the time I discovered Yagi-Stress and made all antennas modeled to handle 130mph wind with 1/2" of ice. But some day we'll get a storm like NH did and all bets are off.
