Just won this on epay. Before I put it on the air, was wondering if there is anything I should know as far as pitfalls with the rig.

I seem to remember it's written somewhere, don't switch between the various "tune" positions when you're in the transmit mode. You could damage or destroy the meter.

It doesn't like having stuff spilled in it, so set your drink down before you lean over it.

Cross your fingers that the seller packs the modulator/power supply well. It's one heavy sucker and will get trashed if not extremely well-packaged, leaving you with a nice paperweight.

They attract others. Pete knows this too.

Ive been running one for many years and it is a fine rig with a few quirks.

- It likes to eat driver tubes as they are running a bit over ratings, drop the voltage down a bit. I still get 125W out and have plenty of grid drive.

- VFO ballast regulator in the PS unit is usually bad, use a 6V6.

- You will probably have to replace a bunch of electrolytics in the PS/Mod sections.

- The TX audio is very restricted inorder to get "communications quality" which was the 60's mantra for AM. Change component values to get a good response and back off on the clipper. You can spread out a real nice and clean AM signal on 50.4 and there arent any slopmasters within 200 Kc to bitch.

- Use a good mike, not a CBers amplified D-104.
