Hi Tim,
This is what I do when I tune up the GK400:

Set OSC-BUF meter to OSC.
Set PA GRID-PLATE meter to PA-GRID.
Set OSC tuning, BUF tuning, PA-GRID tuning and PA-PLATE tuning to 5.
Set ANT-COUPLING fully clockwise (minimum coupling).

Turn on EXCITER power switch.

Adjust OSC Tuning for dip in current. You should see about 5-10MA.

Switch OSC-BUF meter to BUF.

Adjust BUF Tuning for dip in current. You should see about 30-50MA

Adjust the PA-GRID tuning for maximum PA-GRID current reading. You should see about 45 - 55MA. You may have to adjust the center link in the PA-GRID coil to achieve the 45 - 55 MA reading. Be careful of HV on all coils!!!

Turn off EXCITER power switch.

Do NOT proceed any further until you see 45 - 55 MA of PA-GRID current. Re-tune if necessary.

Switch PA-GRID/PLATE meter to PA-PLATE.
Switch HI/LO B+ to LO B+.
Make sure ANT Coupling is fully clockwise. (minimal coupling)

Turn on TRANSMIT switch and quickly adjust PA-Tuning for dip in current. You should see about 10 - 20 MA.

Slowly turn ANT Coupling CCW until you see about 50 - 60 MA of PA-PLATE current. Re-dip using the PA-PLATE Tuning.

Turn off TRANSMIT switch.

If everything looks good up to here, you are ready to apply full B+ to the RF finals.

Switch HI/LO B+ to HI B+.
Turn on TRANSMIT switch.
You should see about 250 - 300 MA of PA-PLATE current.
Adjust ANT Coulping and re-dip PA-PLATE Tuning if necessary.

Good luck and hope to work you when you get it on the air.

Hello Jerry, thanks again for the tune up procedure, very helpful.  I wondered if you have any mods that you could pass along for the GK400.  I have a working GK400B and a nearly complete GK400C.  The mod decks are different and the 400B has had some mods done, couplates removed, looks like the aftermarket processor was installed and then removed.

Thanks, Tim K8WBL
