Well, the second maul is on the ups truck out for delivery today. I never got to see any pictures of it before I pushed the buy it now button, so even I don't know what it looks like or for sure which model GSB 201 it is. I thought it would be fun to show some pix opening the box and showing the birth.

Hopefully there will be no placenta in the box....LOL... Tongue

well, it''s a mark I. dang it. it's pretty ugly. When he said for parts or repair, he meant it. Tongue  This one is in worse  cosmetic shape than Jenny. Johnny is rough, but nothing that cant be fixed up without too much trouble. the power tranny and choke are good according to the VOM. We'll put it aside to work on it later in the summer. YEAH RIGHT.   Roll Eyes The neutro cap is MIA, but it's just a wire and a angled steel part sitting on a feedthru standoff. Bandswitch is crapped out just like the other one was, but not quite as bad.

I'll be doing only the obvious demolition to get rid of Hambones crap JS. Low or no budget ham radio - this is what ya gotta do - sweat equity. The trim ring was repainted badly, and is flaking off in big chunks.

I have a KW Derb Box to finish up right now - which will get us back on the air. This can wait a while. SURE IT CAN.

I'm addicted to radio work. I admit it. I have a problem. I need a intervention.  Cheesy

more pix showing hambones expert work.

HEY, did you ever think about SOLDERING the parasitic chokes and using CARBON resistors?

notice that the band switch has already been repaired with new contacts once, and needs another operation?  I'm starting to believe these amps as stock have a chronic disposition to parasitics. The brain trust will have to confer and discuss.

I have torn the amp apart down to the last screw and will be rebuilding it back up for a total resto job.

You going to pull the old paper caps on it?  Looking at the first set of teardown photos you posted, those things look pretty ratty.

oh yeah, I'd never use 40+ year old filter caps. Recipe for epic fail. This is a Young Spring & Wire unit, so it's from around 1966.

Slab is bringing #1 back to me at the fester tomorrow, and I'm not sure what stage he got to on it re the keying circuit. At one point we had 700 watts coming out keydown, but it was 2 am in the morning and we all were too tired to keep going. I'll let him advise me on what to do from here.

I'm going to call him here on the yellophone shortly after 5 or 6. I got some sheet lexan at Home Depot and I'm going to try it for coil supports on the tuna. betting it will glue real well to the green stuff.

I got #1 back from Frank, Steve, and it's ready to go.  All I gotta do is bring it in, all 90 pounds of it and hook it up - and fix the KW matchbox inpoot coil.  Tongue

My left side is giving me trouble. I gotta take a few hours downtime or I'm gonna have a seizure. Too much activity.

Maul #2 is gonna get black wrinkled on da chassis.
