Anyone ever used one of these in AM mode and fed audio through the ACC connection? I need a small transceiver to replace the Yaesu in the trailer.. Any suggestions?

There's a Yahoo list for this radio you might want to try.

I can't say I've heard any or enough of them on AM to remember an impression from them. Since they are an older rig, production started around 1985 it looks like, I'd be concerned about any proprietary IC chips in there.

Not like you can just go out and get a fresh set of tubes like with the superior hollow state rigs.

I have one I bought in 1987. It wasn't even a very good HF SSB rig, the noise floor from the PLL and the overload capability were worse than lots. Its my newest SSB rig though.

I won one at a Hamfest (for $1.00)but was not impressed with it at all but it made a good driver for my HB 4-1000 rig. Never could get it to sound good at all on AM even at the 15 watt level. Angry 73/Roy

Hi Roy. Ya, I heard one on the air. It didn't sound bad.
I have the IC 718 and am feeding audio to the acc jack (balanced modulator input).

It took a good boost of highs and mids to sound halfway decent. It also takes a scope to get the level just right. I've used mine at 20 watts to drive the amp on AM and barefoot at 40 watts.

I never could get it to sound good when using a mic into the front connector. The acc jack works good.

I think I have heard N1VIV use a 735 driving it through the ACC. Sounded pretty good. He is usually on in the mornings on 3885 or so. You might ask him.
