Very nice, VJB. The only OO report I ever got was for chirp and key clicks, sigh...

Yeah, the 5 x 7 bothered me too.
Maybe that was a message.

That explains why you were so late getting to Frank's place yesterday. Your head was so bloated that you couldn't fit it through your shirt. I'm green with envy, Paul. Wink

Congratulations, Paul. Well Deserved!

Not to blow any smoke, but I would agree with the comments aptly stated by the OO. Superb technical quality and a very pleasant, non-agressive, down-to-earth, yet professional operating style.

It is always a pleasure to listen to your signal, and better still, to work you on AM!

Great to finally meet you on Sunday at Franko's QTH; I really enjoyed it!

Best 73,

Bruce

I once got a "good guy" OO report.  Its format was similar to the standard postcard "oh-oh" report.  If I ever run across it again I'll scan it and post it here.

I've been meaning to ask Mike/SLK if he can find the OO report he got saying he had carrier on his signal.

Wasn't that you Mikey ?

Paul, 4 QTH changes since 1992 made the OO report getting misplaced/tossed. It still makes me laugh at the the thought of it though;)

Congrats Paul.  Well done.

Just found your post.
I must peruse these pages more often, but ARRL exotica is an esoteric topic for me, heh, heh.

Congratulations, Paul!  I've never worked you or even heard you on the air, but your attitude around here and in private email we have exchanged make it obvious you are well deserving of this honor.

Way to go Paul!  Ever since reading your articles on AM (in an ARRL book vintage ham radioing), I've had the impression that you're a first class operator.  This proves it.

Funny to find fresh posts at this later date, because just yesterday I was fishing around my office desk for the odd nickel to buy a candy bar, and I found the hardcopy of an accompanying post card for this.

klc -- REALLY ?? -- I didn't know I had become a "member" of the ARRL. All I knew is that I recently spent $39 to take part in some kind of survey, the results of which have not been included in any official Board of Directors document from their group's national meeting.

There should probably be an investigation ...

Hey Paul,--
Congrats on winning this OO "award",--having worked you in the past on AM and
discussing many AM issues, I know you are deserving of it, --now if it would only get you a bit
of "clout" with the League it might really be worth it.

By the way, --did you or anyone else ever find out why the Valiant at the ARRL is still not
fixed?

I had questioned a while back if the reason it had not been fixed since February of this year was
that there was no one there(at the ARRL) who could fix a tube rig.

Some suggested it probably was due to a "lack of interest" or "other priorities"
Hmmm, still seems strange to me that it is still out of service.

Super Paul,

Now I feel safe answering any CQ's from you.   Don't be upset, my wife still says the golden voice of W3GMS is the best, but your signal popping out in our living room or radio room is always welcome.  Thanks for stopping by, hi hi.

MIke I have not thought to cash in this award to help buy me an ear at the IARU.

What do you think?

Maybe in reality it's like one of those $10/off coupons, where on the back in font size 0.5 is says Cash value 1/20th of one cent.

I heard the ARRL rig (Valiant/NC-303) on 3885 last week during the day.  Sounded sweet.  He narrowly missed working the Tron.

"The ARRL rig," yeah if only they would own up to it and promote it like their other outlets.

That station probably wouldn't be there had it not been for a substantial donation from Joe Walsh, WB6ACU, leveraged by Bob Heil, K9EID who brought Larry W9ER into the renovation project.
