Don has a great explanation of how to use a receiver to check for spurs/harmonics and to take this a step further the Icom PCR series of "black box" receivers that are controlled by the PC are great for this type of service.  There are some 3'rd party freeware programs design to allow them to provide some spectrum analyzer functionality.  I bought a PCR-1000 years ago to provide a "band scan" function for contesting and it is a decent little receiver.  It now spends most of its time as a glorified FM broadcast tuner in my office but I have actually used it as a receiver paired with a Lysco 600 transmitter when I decided to make a few contacts while checking out the Lysco-definitely a mix of technologies.  There are a lot of these floating around used as Icom has at least 1 newer generation since the PCR-1000.

By the way Don, you had a great sounding signal on 75 during our roundtable a few nights ago.
