Tim, I believe you are thinking of the BN-1.  I can't find my sheet on it but believe it is good for about 250 PEP or a hundred watts radio like the DX 100.

I have the B&W version of this, ages ago I was running the Viking 2 into what turned out to be a lower than expected impedance load and the coils heated enough to deform the plastic ribs.  Still works fine, just looks a bit warped.

Speak for your self I know what they are!

We had a long discussion here some time ago on baluns. They can be hatefull, but sometimes necessary devices. Most 1:1 baluns tend to do squirrely things when you wander away from their charactoristic impedances. 4:1s tend to stay around 4:1 no matter what the impedance is on the balenced side. Most of those flimsy air cored ones tend to melt down on AM unless you are running pissweak low power. Build one with a large stack of ferrite and really heavy wire and you wont have any problems.
