Hello Fellow AM'ers:  I'm not for sure where to put this post, hope this is correct place. Since Jan 05 I have been listening to all the am ops with great pleasure, I have been ham for 18 yrs, mostly cw mode. And reading all the post on this board and reading articles on building and repairing transmitters, This has been my best yr ever since i got ticket, I did'nt know filiments from plates on a tube when I started tuning in hr and on the sx24 each and almost every night. So Thank You to each and every one that has kept this mode AM alive, and Special Thanks to all who keep this web site up and going. What a great education. Matthew KR4WI

Back to the topic of this thread,

Hi Mathew

I am glad to here you are enjoying our little part of the hobby. The AM community is a very diverse group  of people with one passion - - Radio.

I have always said that if you have a problem there will always be someone that has an answer for you.

You do not need power and you do not have to use emoticons to have fun and it looks to me that you have already figured that out!

Welcome to our community and fire that radio up OM

Hi Matt!

Welcome to the AM.fone board. Keep reading and you will be up to speed quickly.  Check out the articles on East Coast Sound too.  Crash course the reading.

BTW, do you want an AM  "quick start"?  Consider building up the 813's X 813's plate modulated AM rig below:

http://www.amwindow.org/tech/htm/813/813.htm

It may look like a big project now, but six months from now you will be on the air with a homebrew, high fidelity transmitter capable of an easy 500W carrier.  Ask lots of questions while building it and you will make many new friends that will make AM even more enjoyable. We will help you here and on the air as you locate parts and build it.

There's maybe ten of these rigs built so far with many on the air. I'm building a new one myself right now.

The key is to get involved with a small group of like-minded hams who also build. They will become your core group for on-air fun later on. Many new AMers make the mistake of doing it alone and later get on the air knowing no one. It's a tough way... many just drop out.  The key is to ASK questions and dive into a project. The fastest way to joining and staying a long time in the fun. Get on the air now with your existing rig and start seeking out AMers who are now doing what you want to do.

You can email me at: k1JJ@comcast.net with problems, questions, etc. But, try to post most stuff here to attract a bigger pool of resources, parts, opinions, new friends, etc.

Keep posting and learning, OM.

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth  +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed.  Easily done in DSP.

Hi Matthew,

Let me join the others in saying howdy.

I don't see in your posting where and when you are on the air, but please don't hesitate to check in and introduce yourself.  It'll be a kick for everyone to know that you already know them, even if they don't yet know you.

There's a classic saying in the air "I listen to you ALL the time !!"  that a number of us have enjoyed hearing from folks like yourself, and SWLs who have finally gotten licensed after years of tuning in.
