When you have been on 6 as long as I have, single hop "E" skip really doesn't blow wind up your skirt. I spend most of the time looking for multi-hop E's or tropo signals. There's some multi-hop stuff right now into Europe. And, since I'm not a grid square collector, looking for specific or rare grids isn't high on my list of activities.

with a big coronal mass ejection that killed 75m last night, this thread should have been titled Solar Excrement.   Grin

Not much of a loss on that band; maybe it should happen more often.

Things are getting slightly better. Earlier today, everything on the right side of the image was listed as poor.

Thanks Pete....I'm in Alaska and the aurora is alive and well because of the recent CME...I have reports from Tum Tum, WA that the aurora was seen there (Latitude 47.5 deg N) as well....trouble here in Alaska is.....The sun doesn't set until after midnight, and I can't stay awake and don't choose to get up once I've gone to sleep ....so I haven't personally seen Alice this summer...Good luck on 6....   Steve

Some parts of Long Island, NY caught some auroral viewing early this morning (Tuesday). Viewing it doesn't excite me; bouncing signals off of it and working other stations doing the same, does.

Am hearing already this early morning, 29 mhz FM repeaters from the East Coast coming into the West Coast... Wonder what will happen later on today?  I did work a station in N. Oregon last night on 29.6 simplex, using my A-99 sky burner antenna an Alinco DR-03 10 watter... kinda surprised me... course he was running a Remote Base on some mountain top near Salem...  Listening on 29.0 AM, never heard a thing, and just barely hear the CW beacons down around 28.3.

It's debatable whether the recent "solar excitement" did anything to enhance any 10 meter reception. For the most part, it was dead like the rest of the HF bands. It's been obvious for many years that some sporadic E ionization can affect and/or enhance 10 meter operating, but most sporadic e contacts tend to shine above 40 MHz.
