Well, two weeks ago I ordered ham tags for my car. Since in Michigan it is required that you have a transmitting device in your car to qualify. Well, I finally have a 2m in the car and a dual band antenna for my HT. So I can get them It's just waiting for them. They didin't come in todays mail. I wonder how long it's going to take. I hate waiting for mail. Cry

The good part about it in Michigan the tag is only $2 and free for renewal once you have the tag. Since I just renewed my tags in Aug, I also didn't have to pay another years registration in advance for it.

Next task is to drill a hole in the firewall to install the 2m CB. Since it's got no visible holes like a speedo cable or anything. The radio is installed I just have to apply DC. The antenna is half installed because the lip on my trunk lid is too thin for the lip mount antenna set screws. So I have to go to the local hardware store and see if I can find some longer screws. Even if they aren't hex key screws that should still work fine. I think they are just 6x32's and I don't have any long enough in my inventory to use. So I'll probably wind up buying a bag for less than a buck.

You are misinformed nothing says you have to have a radio in your car. See attached licences application from Michigan secretary of state.

Wait, I read it on the internet it must be true! Wink

That's good to know. I don't remember where I read it, but you're right it's not on the form but I just put in a rig just in case it was true.

Thanks John.

Just got a Michigan Ham plate this summer when I moved up here from Indiana....there's no need to have any sort of radio gear installed in your car.  Jeff W9GY

Yeah, I figured it may have been BS when I didn't see it on the form. But I did need to have a radio in the car anyway. It's been sitting collecting dust for a few years now. Might as well use it. Although the repeaters in this town are dead. Nothing at all what the repeaters were in Maryland. Although I here even those are inactive quite a bit. I used to have a blast on the 2 meter repeaters in Maryland.

Any idea how long it took to get the tag? I know just too impatient.

Coke/beer can makes wonderful shim material. its high quality aluminum and just use the bright side out.  shim the top of the trunk lid so the screws make good contact to the lid
