The JN thread made me think of this. I have to believe somebody noticed but got ignored -- 47 stories, no elevator.

Every story I could find on this went back to the original Spanish story of July 20th, 2013

http://economia.elpais.com/economia/2013/07/20/actualidad/1374340685_911593.html

There are a few other articles in English that give a few real details but most of the reports are short on detail and just repeating the joke.

My Spanish is VERY sketchy, but what I get out of this is that it doesn't have working elevators above the 20th floor, which was the originally planned top floor, now raised to 47 floors. It sounds like the shafts are there but new lifting gear is needed for the additional height and there may not be enough room to install it.

Google translate comes up with this...

"In January 2012, a new surprise was not taken into account the elevator shaft, as is well seen in the promotional designs which consist not typical rooftop spaces dedicated to lifting engines. "The space was calculated for a 20-storey block," tell the same sources. And last May, the culmination, the architects of the project directors (Pérez Guerra's office and RADUAN Olcina and Architects) resigned. They have chosen to remain silent"

Outrageous, funny, and sad all at the same time. I want to say it can't happen here, but the future hasn't happened yet. The scandal could have been avoided if it had been marketed as a green building once the omission was discovered, and then it could have also been charged extra for.

It's green and saves on electricity. It will also make people more healthy. I think this should be the law here in the US. No more dirty, unhealthy elevators!

That building is really ugly.
No wonder these parts of the world are in financial ruin.

Perhaps it was designed by the same firm responsible for their latest submarine....

Perhaps a coincidence, perhaps not....

As soon as I clicked on the link to the Huffington Post article my browser (IE 80) went into a long wait for something and then hung. Immediately thereafter Malwarebytes reported a Trojan attack on my system.
