Some of you folks on the East Cost have been hearing my new 400 watt transmitter if various forms.  Wayne has been using my modulator / PS.  Steve has been using my RF deck.  Sounds very good.  I'll be giving my now very reliable AL82.  Here a few shots of the rig.  The panel is that black splatter finish where a smooth coat is put on and then more black paint is splattered on.  Nice effect

I'll post the modulator in my next post

Al

Very compact unit, AL.   I see you used a PDM air core filter followed by a toroidal ferrite type.

The white heat shrink is a nice idea to hold the RF cores together.

The "SSJ" stamp is a cool touch.

Are you going to build an analog/ digital VFO for it?

That rig should last a long time. It should be at least 10 years before it is "outdated" by new QIX technology.   Wink

Any name?     Haven't heard it on yet.

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth  +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed.  Easily done in DSP.

It's funny to compare Al's transmitter with the one I put together  Grin  This one really is very well crafted.  Mine - well, it looks like what it is - a collection of stuff I had lying around the shack, hooked together to make a rig.

Yeah, it's 75 meters.  160?  I don't even have an antenna up yet.  40 meters will probably still be the Collins 32V1.  The E rig will be driven by the Flex.  I'm looking forward to losing the blower of the AL82 during my AM transmissions.  Many thanks to Wayne.  There were several reasons for asking Wayne to do the work but the main reason is evident by the craftsmanship.  My hands are getting somewhat fragile now although I have the dexterity, it doesn't take much to hurt them by physical exertion so, again, many thanks to Wayne for taking on the job.  I could never have gotten the job done as well nor as soon

That's beautifully built. I wish I had time to do printed circuit boards - it's never the cost, just the CAD time.

Al,

I did want to comment on your new rig some days ago, but forgot.

The workmanship on the rig is outstanding.  Didn't know you were that good at building such things. Grin

If I read it right, I think Wayne build it.

Good luck with it

I laid out the boards  Wink  There are 3 boards as part of the PWM modulator "kit":  the PWM generator board; the overload shutdown board; and the PWM output board.  These boards work together, along with a power supply and PWM filter to form a pulse width modulator.  I'm using the same boards in my transmitters.  There are quite a few of these board sets out there.

Fred - I hate to bust the bubble but that's Wayne, WA1SSJ's handiwork.  I never could do it.-- My hands are too messed up to do some of the work + the talent is lacking.
