I used to get gout attacks years ago but stopped taking my meds and haven't had one in about 5 years even without meds.

Of course I wake up this morning and my right big toe feels like it's being cooked on a spit over a lit can of Sterno.  Tongue

looks like it too. I'm back to using my cane again and being a member of the Crips.... as in crippled.

Jay, your meters are packed and WERE going out Monday....now , not so much.  Roll Eyes  All radio action of any kind has ceased for the time being until this flare up is beaten down.

Rob, signed for your package and it's here, but cant deal with it at the moment. I'll have wifey open it up when she gets home from work. much bigger box than I thought it would be.  Cheesy

Timmy,
Check wit yo doc. You may have a little dose of diabetic neuropathy instead of gout. I have the neuropathy, and often times my whole feet feel like I'm walking on a bed of hot coals. I just deal with it and bitch about it a lot.

well, it's on the first joint of the big toe, which means gout. gout pain isnt like nerve pain - I have that when I eat badly, and it's much sharper and stingy than gout pain. Gout pain is like this incredibly dull ache that goes into agony when your toe hits something , but it's steady and stays until you get some indomethacin inside you. Got doc's appt tomorrow at 10:30am.

Frank, how are you feeling lately?

<snip> Frank, how are you feeling lately? <snip>

I'm actually feelin fairly good considering what I have been through. Got results back today from my primary care Dr. from last batch of bloodwork. Everything is pretty good A1C was 6.5, liver enzymes were dead mid scale, cholesterol was 130
everything looked pretty good except my ammonia level is a bit high. the new diet is working according to plan losing 1-2 lbs a week. They faxed the results to my hematologist and my liver / G.I. doctor. I guess I'll find out next week what thats all about or what we need to do to fix it when I go in on thursday for an iron infusion.

I getting tired of doctors, pills, white lab coats, and getting stuck with needles. (I got stuck 6 times this past thursday) but it sure beats the other alternative!!

keep yourself hydrated (so to piss a lot) to flush the crap out.  Been there done that. A good big glass of milk (skimmed) per day helps too.

Hi Derb,

I know all too well about the gout.  I place the pain of gout at the same level of a kidney stone.

The doc suggested I try Allopurinol to reduce the uric acid, but I was in the 2 or 3% of cases where the drug made it worse.

I had read on some internet site where Turmeric and Celery Seed were natural anti-inflammatories.  So I began taking a teaspoon of turmeric and two teaspoons of celery seed, once in the morning, and once in the evening.  Since I started that, even though my last blood test last week showed uric acid "above the limit", I have has ZERO gout pain since starting on the celery seed.  I also limit high purine foods.

I am not a doc, and this is not medical advice, but its worked better for me, and my body chemistry, than anything else so far, including steroids (which I avoid like the plague).

Anyone who has had the gout KNOWS it is excruciatingly painful once it gets going.  Whatever the celery seed does for me......I am going to start ordering it in 5 pound packages.  You can get a tiny bottle in the supermarket for $7, or get a pound of it at an online spice store for $7.

Now, watch the government find out about that and start regulating and taxing it.  Ask John McCain about HIS latest bill to favor Big Pharma.....oops I am becoming political....

Hope you feel better soon, Derb.

Back in the 60's and early 70's I had a uric acid problem, except mine produced kidney stones instead of gout.  I had three bouts with stones in a 10-year period. I was prescribed Allopurinol and took it for several years until I read up on it and found out that long term use could cause liver damage.  By then I hadn't had a stone for years, so I quit taking it.

It's now been over 35 years since I took any Allopurinol, and haven't had any more problems.  Part of my periodic physical consists of a blood profile, and uric acid has not been an issue.  And many of the things I like to eat most, such as lentils, are on the no-no list for people with high uric acid.

Isn't gout what rich people got in the olden days? I know a guy that gets it from time to time, says it is the worst. he is rich and fat and idle. I probably won't ever get it as I am just fat and idle.

After I get this under control, I should get the station hooked back up in a few days.

Look into undiluted cherry juice, as funny as that sounds.
I think it's a few table spoons a day.
A google search will give more on the dose and theory behind it. From my experience it works.
                                                    Good luck, D.

that drawing is a good idea of what it feels like. I got back from the doc with superpillz (indomethacin, the standard for treating attacks) and we should b good to go in 3 to 4 days from now.  Cool

Derb
Superhet has the right idea, eat about 15 cherries a day when in season or drink pure
whole cherry juice .  It really works I use Just Black Cherry by RW Knudsen you can find it
at natural food stores or some super markets like shop and save.It works for me and others I have told.
i read abt it in a natural healing book many years ago.I just drink a couple of glugs rite out of the bottle
every day./dale/ka5who
