Is there a glossary of the more common lingo, jive, colloquialisms used on AmFone?

As a relative newcomer to AM and this board, it's difficult to follow some of the topics and posts.

slopbucket, maul, 4x1, leenyar, junkston, monkey, hyelification, etc.  I'm NOT asking anyone to stop the lingo, I'd rather just understand it.  Or is this taboo and I'll be forever shunned for asking? Lips sealed

slopbucket...sideband op
maul...a high powered transmitter
4x1....a 4-1000 tube
leenyar...slang term for linear amplifier
junkston...slang term for the e.f. johnson company
monkey...term referencing the "swing" of an analog or digital meter
(de)hyelification...term used to modify a transmitter or receiver for hi fidelity
hope this helps Shocked Shocked Shocked

Not an unusual question, Steve.  Feel free to ask more.
There are a couple of web pages that annotate much of the lexicon.

Some background:

When I first started associating with "The AMers" many years ago, I realized I was hearing terminology and references that were a delightfully renegade thumb-to-the-nose of Q-signals and hi hi FB-type slang.

I concluded part of it was because these guys were outside the mainstream, had rejected pressure to use repressed-carrier modes that sounded bad, and probably had a healthy disrespect for parental controls.

Most of the lingo on here (and pervading AM QSOs in the eastern region of the U.S.) has been developed, implemented, and adopted by others from Tim "TimTron' Smith, WA1HLR.  He has an incredibly original vocabulary.

Much of it is earthy.

Others have tried to mimic, sometimes adopting a Citizens-Band style of language.  I don't find it particularly original or appealing, given that it has descended from an obvious source.

But be that as it may, you will find certain AMers flouting convention with their word choice, breaking out of the narrow mold of language that certain traditionalists would wish for us to comply with.

And ya know what ?  It's part of the fun.

Thanks everyone - that helps a bunch.   Sorry I posted the original in the Tech section - it shouldn't happen again.

Hmmm. Saddened to see my state not represented in the AM Geography part of the Glossary. Cry

Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things.  Wink

Really, it's not hard.  A lot of AMinivia is similar to pig latin.
The Tron would probably bastardize Iowa to  "I owe ya"  on a nice day, and a far more nefarious moniker on a typical day..
