The just sent me an email - Circuitcity.com is back!!

(as possibly yet another TigerDirect.com clone.)

TigerDirect (Systemax) did the same thing With CompUSA.com. Guess it must have worked so well, they're back for more.

http://www.circuitcity.com/

Now I will get THREE emails every time they have a sale.  Roll Eyes

Perhaps they can bring back Layfayette Rado back from the dead too.  Grin

A new electronics appliance store popped up here in Montgomeryville Pennsylvania, right across the street from the old Circuit City store.

It is called Sixth Avenue Electronics.  Apparently they have stores in NJ and NY also.  Their logo actually says "6th AVE ELECTRONICS CITY".

"Lafayette Radio Co." exists today. "Lafayette Electronics" products exist today. However, "Lafayette Radio Electronics Corp." Syosset, NY does not. And, for approximately 4 or 5 years in the early 80's, there was "Lafayette - Circuit City".

Yep, it was all of those salesmen, store, and display shelving eating up the profits.
Actually, Tiger Direct had 4 retail stores and aquired 16 from CompUSA.  They converted the Tigerdirect.com stores to CompUSA.com stores.

They now have 24 stores.

Altamonte Springs, FL
Brandon, FL
Clearwater, FL
Deerfield Beach, FL
Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Ft. Myers, FL
Jacksonville, FL
S. Jacksonville, FL
Miami (Dadeland), FL
Miami (Falls), FL
Miami (Flagler), FL
Orlando, FL
Palm Beach Gardens, FL
Plantation, FL
South Tampa, FL
Hoffman Estates, IL
Naperville, IL
Orland Park, IL
Durham, NC
Raleigh, NC
EL Paso, TX
McAllen, TX
Plano, TX
Guaynabo, Puerto Rico

Circuit City was looking to Carlos Slim to bail them out, but I can't blame him for staying away after he ran CompUSA into the ground.  Once bitten twice shy.  My local CompUSA was once a Computer City - another dead brand.  The store is still empty.

Ironically, my first CompUSA within driving range (Philly) was more like a discount outlet store than a retail store and the TigerDirect stores were outlets too, so they are actually going back to their roots.
