OK. For extra points, name the state(s) that still have only one area code as of now in 2009.

As of this date, West Virginia still only has one area code - 304. Beginning this Saturday, we will be required to dial 10 digits for local calls (as of now the area code does not need to be dialed). On March 28 the new 2nd area code - 681, will be rolled out.

Verminmont, a.k.a. San Francisco East - 802. Census predicts minimal population growth over the next decade, so it's not likely to change. Somewhere between 700-800K last I knew...

Maine, still good old 207!

From Wikipedia "Area code 207 is the state of Maine's sole area code, except for a tiny portion which uses the Quebec area code 418. Area code 207 was created as one of the original area codes in 1947. The hamlet of Estcourt Station uses Quebec area code 418 rather than Maine area code 207."

Folks in my town don't even bother with the first three digits of the phone number, they just give the last four. Its assumed that everyone knows prefix of "882", so I've often been told "just call me at 9876" like that is the complete number. It took me a few times to ask until I understood what they were getting at.
I find it charming.  Wink

All three of the northern New England states have only one area code: VT 802, NH - 603 and ME 207.

I'd better not forget  "Rogue Island", 401 or I might get a "beatin'".  It's home of many great vintage and AM enthusiasts and Paulie DePetrillo the NEAR-Fest (and Boxborough) Sergeant-at-Arms.

The entire Caribbean is one area code.

Also North Dakota (701) , South Dakota (605) Wyoming (307) and Hawaii (808).  Many Canadian provinces have one area code: NF, NS, NB, MB, SK and AB (Yukon and NWT too).

I think that's it.

MrMike
(802)

PS: Do I get my extra points?
