Challenger For Southwestern Division Disqualified By Ethics Committee (UPDATED)

Carl Gardenias, WU6D, the challenger seeking the position of ARRL Southwestern Division Director, was declared disqualified Thursday by the ARRL Ethics and Elections Committee. Gardenias was running against incumbent Richard "Dick" Norton, N6AA. Due to the disqualification, the Committee has declared Norton re-elected.

"Carl Gardenias, WU6D, Files Appeal with ARRL Executive Committee: Carl
Gardenias, WU6D, who was disqualified last week as a candidate in the
race for Director of the ARRL Southwestern Division, filed an appeal
with the ARRL Executive Committee on Monday, September 17. Gardenias was
disqualified by the League's Ethics and Elections Committee for not
acting promptly in response to communications from that committee
requesting he correct misinformation sent out on his behalf concerning
other candidates. The Executive Board is currently considering
Gardenias' appeal."

From the ARRL Web Site dated Oct 5, 2007 -- "The ARRL Executive Committee has completed its consideration of the appeal filed by Carl Gardenias, WU6D, of the decision of the ARRL Ethics and Elections Committee disqualifying him as a candidate for Director of the Southwestern Division. Based on its own independent review, the Executive Committee voted unanimously by teleconference to affirm the decision. This decision was communicated to Mr Gardenias on October 1, along with detailed findings of fact and conclusions of the committee. The Executive Committee is meeting this weekend and will release additional information after the meeting."
