Lets see - a fathers day gift for Frank?

How about a new bathing suit? Beach season is coming to CT.

Thankfully the Frederick, MD ham club has a hamfest every fathers day.  Always something cool to score at that one.

ALways wondered why nobody ever held a hamfest on Mothers Day or Valentines day  Grin

Hey Mike I went in the water last Saturday. I was wearing my crappy shorts covered with white dust from cutting the new tub surround kit.
After I got out of the water they were good as new. The neighbors are used to seeing me covered with some kind of construction waste so usually don't bother to ask anymore.
Not ready to gamble on a new speedo...........

John, Hostraders was held on Mother's Day weekend hoping you would clean the basement and come home empty handed... which never happened. When it was in Deerfield I would stop along the way and order flowers for the XYL so I could come home as a hero no matter how full the truck was.

Yuck! At this location, the family always has activities for both Mother's and Father's Day. No flea market is that important. Maybe the Frederick Club is populated with lonely singles, lonely fathers, or lonely want-to-be fathers. Ah, let me go hug something grimy in that carton under the table.

I don't buy my XYL a mother's day gift.  She isn't my mother.  My mother is dead.  But the kids buy her a mother's  day gift.  They also buy me a father's day gift.  But my XYL does'nt buy me a father's day gift because I am not her father.  Her father is dead too, but she still has a stepfather.

Many people don't realize it but Mother's Day was invented by the American Greeting Card Company.  So was Father's Day, Saint Valentine's Day, etc, all in the pursuit of the bottom line.  Yet if we don't observe them we're insensitive and just plain cheap!

What can I say??

Father's Day has become a day to not only honor your father, but all men who act as a father figure. Stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers, and adult male friends are all honored on Father's Day.

And:

Motherhood is one of the most cherished and valued roles in our society. On Mother's Day, we pay tribute to these dedicated women who give unconditional love and guidance to their children.

There's plenty of families visiting this fester with the OM.  There's a big fathers day car show around here with the same atmosphere.  Plus, there's plenty of time to do the fester (isn't one of the points of Fathers Day to honor the OM and let him do something he wouldn't ordinarily be able to do?) then do the family schtuff afterwards.

John,

During the 1970s The Rochester Hamfest was always held on Mother's Day weekend, until one year, when I called the chief hancho to complain about such poor planning and got his wife.  She thanked me enthusiastically for calling to complain, and said she'd just been waiting for some ammo to throw at her old man about that.  She threw it at him, and apparently it worked, because subsequently, it was held the weekend AFTER Mother's Day until Dayton took over that date.  Now it's the weekend after Memorial Day.

I've been known to celebrate Father's Day with my Dad and the best part was the afternoon nap.

My son usually celebrates with me by bringing over a keg of his homemade beer.

The Hosstraders used to be the Saturday before Mothers Day.  In the late 70s (believe 1979) they tried to hold a two day event that included Sunday and it bombed.  Wonder why?
