I took a look - eeew!  How dumb can you be!  Looking at the components that were zorched, what do you expect? NONE of them look like they were rated for the extralegal power levels they zorched at.  LMR 600 is low loss, but it still has losses at HF.  You can't run 10 kW through it.  Add in a high SWR (or in this case, probably even about 1.5:1), and you'll get enough coax heating to melt things.  But you know freebanders - nobody can tell them anything.  They know it all.

Really needing to get going to work,

Man... an entire, SECOND smallblock chevy to drive 6 more alternators?

I guess having a full mouth of cavity-free teeth excludes me from ever owning an Bird wattmeter, an R-390A, hypersil xformers, a 4-1000, or any other tube with handles...  Where did my parents go wrong?

No need to give up dental hygiene. R390As can still be had for less than a king's ransom. Keep an eye peeled for old buzzard estate sales. A truly awesome FB rig if you have a strong back to carry it and a strong wrist to tune it.  Wink

most cb'ers solderin skills are not rated highly. In the case of the coax, thats the culprit.  I've never met one that really knew how to solder a pl 259.....or know that using a pl 259 at 10K rms might not be a good idea in the first place.

some of them are hip and run 3/8" or 1/2" hardline with N connectors.

Apparently they don't know basic physics either. 746 watts per hp at, let's say, 80% conversion efficiency. To make 20 kw of electricity (which should be plenty for a 10kw amp),  requires less than 35 hp. Even a puny SBChevy should be able to do that!

The audio playback on the zorch site is typical of the freebanders also.
Sounds like an un-educated MO-FO.

Hmmm, I think the typical chickenbander is more likely to have a spare mouse motor on their front porch, (as Camaros and that telephone pole a block down from the bar don't mix!) vs. the breadloaf-sized 2.0L that somehow propels my shitsubishi minitruck.

(Thats what I was going to do with it in the event it didnt pass smog, yank the little motor and re-purpose it as a Field Day generator on a rolly-cart.)

Now, true punk-rockkedness would dictate running your multiple alts from a VW bug motor!  NOW we're talking down near the 30's of hp!
