most suckers can't handle the truth.
Frank, what's really comical is that the slight difference is so small that few users would ever encounter an area that it made any difference at all. Anybody using one of the rcvrs in the top section of the list should be a happy camper for the most part. Rob would probably have been better off to post the results and stay silent, his very logical attempts to explain and sooth the ruffled feathers of some Flex 5000 owners just keep drawing more BS in response. I love the email saying that the whole rcvr test procedure is antiquated and is no longer relevant!? Sounded more like "if Flex 5000 doesn't win hands down then the tests are irrelevant" to me.
Some of the owners of the Icom R9500 might have their feelings hurt a little in this deal but for a VLF-3ghz rcvr I thought it did surprisingly well. Huge frequency coverage like that brings in a whole new set of problems for designers and I think Icom did real well on the R9500. Now I wonder if we could put the R9500 in a different case with an American name on it and snag some sweet DOD contracts!? Hey Siganl/One did it with the IC-781!
I quit the flex list quite some time ago due to the ridiculous way so many of the so called members would come out of the woodwork anytime someone would post something negative about the box or software. It was like, if you don't have something good to say about this radio, then keep your mouth shut!
I still enjoy my SDR-1000, but only for 40 and below, as the rx sucks above that, and the bands (20 - 6 meters) are full of spurs.
