my first Hostraders after moving back east in '83 I drove my '78 Firebird on Saturday and learned you could show up on Friday night.
in '84 I drove my new rebuilt 72' 1 ton chevy pickup with an oak flat bed.
Fresh 4 bolt 350 fuelie cam motor with headers. The best part was the front seat.
It was like a twin bed. I slept very well until fall of '88.
That year my new '88 3/4 ton 2500. I still could haul butt but the seat was just a bit shorter. I found that if I put the cooler on the right side I could sleep ok. This served me well until a butt head rear ended me in 2001 and trashed the frame....yup cell phone idiot.
Now we drive a 2001 chevy with a 3 section front seat. It isn't too bad except for the seat belt latches. Everytime I get into a deep sleep I had one land in a kidney causing great pain. might be time to tarp the bed and have a place to streatch out
because my back still hurts a day later. Get a room....hmmmmm

...I have tried the various sleeping positions:  car, camper, tent, etc.,  but best one is now - they moved Hosstraders to my back yard (9 miles away) and I sleep in my own bed.

But, really, with Concord so close, 20 minutes, you can find lots of hotel rooms to rent, that's the way to go - if you are not already only 20 minutes away...

Sorry I missed all the excitement.  Looks like it was a great time.  I left one conference in North Conway to another in Montreal on Friday.  Would have been hard to get to Hosstraders.  Ah, there is always the fall...

Hope your back feels better soon and check out the hotels in the fall!!

Frank,

You can have Pam next time. She is warm and comfortable.

Or join us at the Fairfield Inn or Hampton. $75 to $99 for the night. large, clean  bed, shower and free breakfast. (Prices will be slightly higher in the fall)

My sister and her family live in Concord, but I've never had the scrote to ask to stay there. I'm sure they'd let me, but I'd wake everybody up hauling myself in after midnight and again when I got up early to go back Saturday. So the uncomfortable (and terribly cheap-ass) sleeping in the car approach has worked for me...sortakinda. I've also slept under 4x4 pickups, motorhomes, and in tents. Great (ouch) fun.

Was good meeting up with you again, Frank. I'd forgotten than you were with the same group as Gary 'EWQ. Just knew I remembered you from somewhere.

Carl, how was dinner in Portsmouth? We spied what looks like a new brewpub right in Concord, so we're planning to try it out next fall. Wonder if Jack has been there yet?

Well you can stay with relatives if you are lucky enough to have some that live close to the fairground, or you can pay $75.00 to $99.00 for a hotel/motel, you can deal with pain from seatbelt buckles OR...................... you can drink 6 bottles of whatever brand of sheepdip (beer) you prefer and sleep like a baby anywhere for about $8.00.

I'm thinking a couple sheets of plywood and a tarp over the truck bed with something to lay on. Did plenty of beer but a buckle in the kidney gets you right up.
