It's midafternoon and the  lightning storm map shows just a little activity along the east coast, with active spots in NE Iowa, and between Florida and Cuba.  The map looks much calmer than usual for this time of day.

There was some good activity on 160 early this morning.  I fired up the rig and worked a station in VA.

Maybe condx on 75 and 160 will be worth checking out tonight.

Don,
Hope to work you on 160M real soon. Band conditions are definitely improving over the usual Summertime QRN.

I fired up the BC1-T yesterday and discovered that modulator tube #1 is drawing excessive current and takes off into oscillation before it trips the plate relay. I don't know what it is yet since I have to investigate further. It could even be the tube itself so that's where I plan on looking first.

Hope to work you soon and best regards.

304-TH - Workin' it

160 was dead here last night.
Listened to the AM BCB and no sigs whatsoever from any midwest clear channels, 700, 780, 720, 890 all dead, only a strong Mexican on 780 could be heard. My only good path was straight south, NM and Texas stations rolling in pretty well, but E-W paths were toast.

Bill,
I haven't worked you since last Winter! I think it was on 75M late one night when conditions were pretty good. Hope to work you on 160M this coming season. The last rig I heard you on was your "La Bamba" which methinks is a pair of 304TL's modded by the same. You put out a damn good signal with it to the East Coast.

Definitely looking forward to those cold Winter nights where 160M is quiet and signals come booming in and QSB with a little phase distortion and then come up out of the aether to fully quiet the receiver again!
