Years ago I used to climb uo and down the sides of mountains cutting 150nfoot tall redwoods while fire was chasing us, jumped out of helicopters to fight fires, etc. Just a snot nosed kid who was gonna save the world. Never thought in my 50s all that chainsaw training would come in handy, but it did.
I was able to drop trees nobodybelse would due to the risk of hitting houses and other buildings, right where I wanted them in most cases.
These folks have NOTHING. There are no social networks here like food stamps or welfare. A hodge podge of missionaries helping out.
I've NEVER met people more welcoming or thankful than the Jamaican people.

2nd highest winds ever recorded on earth hit this island almost 4 months ago.
I rebuilt the electric backbone of a community clinic in two days. Then helped with some roofing.
2nd set of 2 days we went into the mountains and cleared trees from yards and off houses.
People here are living with no roof. In the rain. No tarps, etc.
Begging us to be careful to not destroy their mango, banana trees, pumpkin patches, etc because that is their only source of food.
It's not all Kongston and Montego Bay. Those Dandals resorts pay a million dollars and get press releases on what they are doing.
Meanwhile missionaries and good folks are sending hundreds of millions in cash and labor.
Wish I could stay longer but my employer could only give me 3 days.
Yes, my employer donated 3 days of paid PTO for me to be able to come here. If you like Bourbon, tip a glass of Jim Beam tonight. Even when we are closing a plant and laying people off for a year, they will donate time like this.
Don't like bourbon? Make it Cruzan Rum. I say the 13 year if you can find it, its my fave I help make. Otherwise, Estate Diamond Light!
My son's youth group self raised 25 thousand dollars to.make this trip a reality. They old water bottles on the roadside in 90 degree heat and 90 per humidity. They made a BBQ lunch. And they did it all themselves.
I have no words to describe the heartache I saw here. I also have no words to describe the amazing people I met here.
