A man of good character usually has a hobby or hobbies that are pursued more energetically than the pursuit of lying on the couch or sitting in front of the TV set.

The web site,  "The Art of Manliness"
http://www.artofmanliness.com/
has among other things a list of hobbies that are manly. It does not imply that women should not pursue any of the hobbies, but the site is about manliness - and so it properly leaves any advice for womanliness for other sites to address, as google will confirm.

The second hobby out of 45 hobbies suggested for men is ham radio. After chess.
