arrived in perfect shape. Guess I wont know if they work until I put the HV to them.  Tongue

good thing is if they dont, just swap em with 813's and adjust some voltages.

Hammer Time.

I'm ordering 4 new black crackle rack chassis tomorrow. 2 of the ones I got with the rig were too brutalized. Gonna use the other 2.

need to get sum iron and some sockets and scare up a mod transformer. Gonna have to have a peek-a-boo window in the front of the rf deck. These tubes glow like glowworms when they are singing for their supper. 813's are boring by contrast even if they are more strapping.  Cheesy

Frank, I told you years ago I always wanted a tx with gammatrons in it. Coolest tube name evar.  Cool

DerbMeister,
Nice "booty" of Gazzmatrons, especially four of them. Do I see a PP 257E modded by another pair of them in a HB TX in the future? They're very good tubes with a good output. A pair should make legal limit and thensome.........

If you do build something and pop a bottle, I know the HK 257E fairy.

Joe,

Tis only the beginning. the first transmitter (the one I am starting now) is going to be my 'small' tx. I'm going to be getting iron and tubes wherever I can find em.

Biggest problem right now is, like always, mod iron, closely followed by the need for some plate iron that will swing 2KV @ 200~250ma for the gammatrons. they like lots of voltage. I have iron that is shy on the voltage but gotz current. That will be feeding 811's I think.

the 257's would make a darn good 75 meter rig. Put em in the tube fairy cold storage locker, when I finish the current rig, I'll be looking to start up again.  Cool

Tim,

I see Joe (IBX) checked in here and that reminded me of something...

Last year when he gave me the 40 meter Hartly Osc with the 26 in it, I
didn't have a 2.5 VAC fil xformer to use with it.  So we replaced the 26
with a 76...  Mean time, Joe also sent me a 2.5VAC, CT @ 10A/ 7500V
insulation, 866 filament xformer.

I seem to remember you said back in one of your posts you are looking
for a couple of these things, so if this is so, let me know and this one is
yours.

And while Joe knows the HK 257E Fairy, I also know the 814 Fairy and am
on good terms with him... I promised a prominent New Englander a couple
of them for use in an HT-9 as well so I have to go and dig them out and
get them on their way...

Derb, let me know what you need in the way of filament iron. I have plenty here that is taking up space.

biggest thing in the fil dept is a 5 volt@15amp unit with a CT to light up the Orgasmatrons.  Grin

thats for 2 tubes, one tube only needs to be 7.5 amps.
