..ok..this dx100 has been a real pain...removed all the mods fer ssb exciter, etc...new rectifier sockets...new hv caps...new lv caps...it runs fer about 6 months, then gets sick...latest is, i noticed the odd time the audio would scream..the meter would peg, then settle down...today, the audio started the same thing...i checked all the tubes..all ok...put rig in cw mode, threw the plate switch, and the plate current meter pegged off the end...swr was good...back to am, thru the switch  again, and a light show in the 1625s...back to cw, thru the plate switch, meter pegs, 5r4s start zorching, and the 1625s...poof...fuse blew...

..ideas?..

Hmmmm...
Pull out the modulator tubes.
Get yer meter out.  Check HV
Make sure you got 750.  If not 5R4 toast and/or those filter caps (R34) were'nt up to the task.
It was working for sixth months as a daily radio?  HV supply does not seem happy, its a start there.

You gotta keep the light shows to a minimum, Tim........

They may be stresing other components or the power transformer.

...fred...what is more stressed, is me...

..this thing was cornverted to ssb, with a outboard ssb generator, of some kind...so, i have had to remove alot of the mods...things run great fer about 4 months, then something else gives up the ghost...this thing has more time on it, than a washington street walker...
