Heard the airlines are considering weight based ticket pricing or surcharges to deal with the rising price of fuel. Can hear the agent now...'Please put both feet on the scale ma'am'.

This could be thought of as genetic discrimination, and would likely be the subject of legislation and lawsuits if implemented in the US.

I have always slightly over-indulged in food food and drink, but have rarely ever broken past 155 on the scales.  Some people on my exact same diet and quantity of food would easily top 250 or 300.  It's all in the genes.  I know people who eat and drink way less that I do who are nevertheless overweight, and I have had to watch my own eating more in recent years.

Alas, I will not be flying, and definitely NOT to Japan Sad

Especially in coach.  I flew to Manila once in coach class and it sucked bad.  Had a 2 hour layover in Nagoya, I was not impressed.  Thankfully, on the return trip, I was bumped up to business class.

Or in P.C.speak - 'Vertically-Challenged'? Look at the bright side Mike(y): you don't ooze into the seats either side of you on a plane. You're not even close to fat in the world of air travel. I've seen you. I've also been pinned into a window seat by a guy the size of a Yugo - despite having paid for my entire seat. Tongue

People should be able to smoke, be fat, run a SSB No-traffic net, whatever else they want to be, provided they don't impact the rights of others in doing so. Oh yeah - and pay for it. Keep your smoke in your lungs, your fat in your seat, and don't expect me or anyone else to pay the difference for your bad habits. Seems fair to me. Discrimination? How about common sense and accountability for one's actions? While a person's genetics could make them prone to being fat, alcoholic, whatever else, their personal choices and actions are the determining factor. Plenty of people out there prove the point daily.

'course, they're going to have to be creative with that whole 'scale at check-in' thing. A woman's weight is not something to be taken...lightly.  Wink

I do draw the line in my flight seat. I paid for it and i intend to sit in it without the person next to me sharing it with me. I had this happen a few times when I travleled a lot. I just would tell the hall monitor " I paid to use the seat Not then pasenger next to me. I want to use the entire seat or have a refund for the portion being occopied from the seat next to mine. I would also insist on keeping my seat and having the occopire moved, unless it benifited me. I came to this conclussion after several flights being squished into the window like a fly under the ol swatter.

Well you guys close to me aren't going to have to worry about cramped flying conditions soon enough. We started designing a plane in my garage. I had engineers go over the specs and we're close to finishing the most important part. The open bar.... Next on the list is the rest of the stuff like the wings, and the other thing there, the ah...whatchmacallit...the ahhh...oh, the engine. I just found this load of old screen doors on the side of the road, so we could probably start making the frame this week.

Who's in?? Tongue

I've found that being squished into the window is a result of not booking far enough in advance to get an aisle. I always get an aisle or take another flight. Being more solid than some, I take exception to the anorexic size seats in the flying cattle cars. I pay for a seat. I expect the seat to be a reasonable size, an expectation, among many, consistently failed by the airlines.

The fact that no airline seat it is big enough for anyone's comfort is a fact of air travel. The aisle seat allows me to lean slightly to the aisle to avoid being so close to the person in the next seat. I'd rather see them remove one of the coach seats, make the others bigger (all 1st class size) and charge an extra 20% to make up the difference. If that makes it too much $ for some people to fly, so be it. If a person can't deal with the crappy seating in coach, they have the option of first class.

But neither my opinions nor yours will ever cause the airlines to do anything other than cram as many sardines into the tube as possible. If they ever charge me by weight, I for certain will sue the pants off them and there are alot of lawyers in Dallas who would probably take that.

It is bad enough all the stupid things a person has to go through to get on a plane. take off your shoes. remove the notebook, no lighters, no matches, what's that?, what's this? put your crap in a bag.. Now they want everyone to go through a perverse and ungodly viewing system so they can see you naked. It is very offensive to my morals and beliefs. Why are they so frightened that they have to do this? I think it's all a bunch of crap to keep the ignorant sheep-minded public afraid and *compliant* so they can invade privacy and take away rights even more. Oh I'm so scared! the evil terrorists are going to get me!! Ohh save me, big brother!! hogwash. just plain BS.
