From the ARRL web site:

"NOTICE
Effective April 30th, this service will be discontinued.

As of April 30, ARRL will cease listing classified ads in Radios On-Line, the classified ad section on the ARRL Web site. According to ARRL Chief Operating Officer Harold Kramer, WJ1B, the ARRL has experienced an increased number of complaints by members and users regarding postings and practices that do not conform to the Radios On-Line Web site's original intent:
"Despite our efforts to monitor the site regularly, these problems persist. These have included postings for guns and 'personal' ads. Our staff that administers this service has deleted items and notified the 'poster,' only to find the ad back two days later, placed in every category. We are spending a disproportionate amount of staff time dealing with this matter; it is no longer worth the cost of maintaining the service when other online services have been established to handle the specific need for online person-to-person sales."

BTW,

I posted an ad a year ago and got a lot of phishing emails. I emailed the ARRL about it and got not reply.

Dan

Obvious - ARRL is a bunch of BAD people.

They publish anti-AM statements, push the real technical discussion into a seperate magazine, fill your email box with SPAM, fill your mailbox with donation letters, unplugs your fridge uring a hot day, kicks your grandma down the stairs, convinces you to refinance into a bad ARM loan, dumps bis-phenol A into the streams and ponds of Newington, and lobbies for huge, nebulous no-bid contracts with the U.S. Goverment.

I mean evil even!

Hi:

My point was that the online section was not managed well and these problems could have been easily avoided, and are avoided on most online advertising sites.

Instead of actually managing the site well, they are giving up and admitting defeat.

My cousin posted an RX for me once and within days I had every scam artest in the world trying to rip me off. I think the ARRL considered it not worth their trouble sorting through the crooks and perverts.

Classifieds can be a real pain to keep clear of the trash. I think the QRZ classified section  has at least 3 or 4 Moderators to sweep the trash away as quickly as possible. ARRL's removal of this constant bad itch is a good thing for them and probably not a real loss for most of the membership. Lots of other ham-related classified web site activity around, including the great one we have on this site.
