The Greater Cincinnati Amateur Radio Association 1936 Net will host its annual AM night on Thursday 27 December, 2007,  starting at 9 PM Eastern Standard Time on 1936 kHz.  Everyone with AM capability is invited to participate, regardless of QTH.  In years past, stations as far away as the west coast of Canada have joined in.

The club started in 1936 as a group of hams in the Cincinnati area who set up and maintained emergency communications during the 1936 flood.  The group has met on 1936 kHz ever since, except during the War years.  The years when that part of the band was unavailable because of LORAN, the net operated but another frequency was used.

The AM event will begin at 9 PM and run until everyone has called it an evening.  The net normally operates on SSB, but this one night of the year, conducts its operation on AM to commemorate the amateurs' response to the flood emergency.

Let's hope the weather and ionosphere cooperate.

Starts at 0200 GMT.  Already hearing stations with AM transmitters on the air that they say haven't been fired up for a long time.

Was able to hear a few stations here on Whidbey north of Seattle.  Didn't have the scrote to check in though.   Embarrassed

Heard some good signals into Vernon but wasn't aware of the celebration else I would have joined in. Lot's of wobbly VFOs.  :-)

Cheers

The net control was Jeff NM4A, so hats off to him for a great job.  He later reported that there were 49 participants including him.

The net officially started at 9:00 p.m. and I was able to check in at 9:34 p.m.  They got down to me at 11:13 p.m., long net!  I did not hear him, but KL7OF apparently checked in later.

Ya.... it was a fun time. I heard both Don and Tom checkin. Great signal guys.
My W8A call got them intriqued enough to put me near the top of the list for comments.
After getting the mic plug ALL the way in I was able to explain the reasons for the 1X1 call and pitch the Heavy Metal Rally.

All in all a good night on AM radio.
