Hello my Friends
I'm doing a crazy skit on my 'BCQ radio show and would like to get the audio of Ashtabulla Bill making his profound statement about slopbuckets trying to trun him off the air. The clip on the AM window cuts off at the end. If I remember he makes the statement a couple of times. His familiar rambling on about his dislike of inconsiderate SSB ops. Any help? Pls PM me or send the file to my hotmail address******fred7415@hotmail.com*********** Get rid of stars

Since I made the original recording, I'll send you what I have Fred. Should be fun!

Classic.

Steve's place in AM Radio history is secure merely for making that recording, regardless of his many other contributions.

And just so you know, Steve - everytime I remember the 'crackers and cheese' story you and 'JN told at one of the Dayton dinners, I laugh hard. I try not to think about it when eating or drinking. Beer out the nose is no more fun than soda, and the Realtor asked me to keep food off the walls.  Grin

I wish I had rolled tape back in the 70's and captured the sound of ?? pissing into a well??  or , thats what it sounded like to me....   not the same sound as refilling the 807 with the warm filtered P-olean   klc

In my opinion, I might be wise to discuss it with Bill first. Several months ago Bill was hit with an official letter citing intentional interference to several SSB operators on 40 meters.  Bill was required to respond to this official letter.  Before broadcasting audio tapes Bill’s dislike of SSB operators, you might want to get his blessing or at least find out where he stands with the FCC.  He may not be looking for, or needing, any additional notoriety.

Or just use some of the existing Derb/Joe audio shenanigans:

Thanks to all. Thanks Dave W9AD for the file in hotmail. And Steve for the complete audio file of Bill ranting about SSBers. I will email or call Bill personally berfore I proceed using his voice on the air. I don't want to cause more trouble when it's already there for him.

Now QSO w/ WA0ZHH and W6PSS, and others. 5/9 with QSB.

I was one of those others.  Never heard of him before this week and now he is everywhere.

He held no punches about my lousy, mushy audio and I spent the day fixing it.

I can't use my 8000 rig on 40 because I didn't think 40 was worth bothering with when I designed it.  I fixed the mushy audio on it with an EQ and spent a good deal of time today trying to make the EQ work with the Ranger/SB200 on 40.

I called CQ tonite for several hours off and on to get an audio check and about the time I was ready to give up, NA7RH poped in and blessed it.

Right in the middle of our QSO, a foreign bcst station popped in and completely covered him up on my S40B but I was able to pull him out with the Kenwood in LSB.... sigh.

See y'all on 40.

Jack

K9ACT, I spun the dial to 7290 tonight and heard you in QSO with NA7RH, much improved, but lots of noise and QSB, so not Q5, but a respectable signal. The BBC interval signal came on at about 25 past the hour and wiped you out, tho.  I guess 40M is on the upswing. Yes Ashtabula Bill minces no words, eh...

It looks like I hit a brick wall with Bill. Someone must be answering his email. The email address displayed on QRZ.COM is not Ashtabulla Bill. His name is Brian, W5HRO /6
Sunnyvale, CA
He mentions that Bill is getting weak as time moves on. And he is not aware of any lawsuit ongoing with Bill and the FCC and some SSBers.
If Bill is in a bad way, then I will abandon my skit and might use some other ideas presented to me in this thread.
Thanks

Ashtabula Bill is not getting any younger. Assuming the inevitable, I hope there are plans afoot to save Bill's homebrew UltraModulation rig from the scrap heap when the time comes.

I just talked with Bill last week on 7290.  He seemed OK then.

We were on the frequency first, so when the No-Traffic Net started up, they shifted operations to 7288.  I could hear a little monkey chatter off to the side, but no problem hearing Bill, and he didn't mention anything about them.

They used to insist on starting up right on frequency, regardless, and then gripe about the QRM.  Their complaint to Riley may have backfired with them being directed to QSY if Bill was already using the frequency.

I have noticed Bill's voice sounding a little shaky with age the last couple of years.  He sounded no different the other day from usual.

I assume his wife is still there with him.  It must be her e-mail address.  I don't think Bill tinkers much with the computer.
