Will my G5RV work?
1/4w is something like 507' long... and mobile experience tells me that the lower in frequency, the more critical the tuning is on an antenna, and the higher the Q gets, because physical limitations will keep it so relatively close to the ground... unless it's a loop antenna. Homebrewed tuner (with extra amounts of Fixed-L added in series - Air-dux, anyone?) and some W-I-D-E spaced capacitors, feeding open-wire line to a loop that's >1000' in overall length. That band should quickly become know as "Ranchers Frequencies", because only Ranches will have enough real-estate to erect any kind of half-way decent antenna!

Might become a popular band if it's below the lowest frequency threshold of BPL emissions.

I can't believe the HUZman has a dummy-lo...er, G5RV (off-center fed coat hanger) for an antenna...

Well Alright! I've been making sketches for a Flat Top Tee antenna and eyeballing which trees to hang it from.
A fellow could sneeze and be off frequency with only 15kc's, but it is a start. General aviation is rapidly changing over to glass cockpits with satellite weather, notams, synthetic 3d map displays and approach guidance. The FAA started abandoning Non Directional Beacons over ten years ago, which should open more and more space between 200 and 500kc for amateur radio to request in the future.

Several AMers have been using the 500 kHz experimental allocation for several years. Jay - W1VD is but one. http://www.w1vd.com/Here's Jay's transmit antenna. No ranch required. http://www.w1vd.com/XNStxantenna.html

Uhm... no way you can get a pair of 95' towers in a 60x120' residential lot...

I even know of a company making mono/dual band SDR transcievers for 500khz ( and 137khz ).
I think they'll be around $200.

Yeah, I did. Define "Ranch" ;-) I see a Ranch as 5+ acres. 50x100, or 60x120, or even a 100x200 lot won't support an antenna for 461kHz! 20 100' zig-zag runs, back and forth in a wwwwwwwwwww type of configuration? ;-) Ranch, bro... you gots ta have acreage! Like Don, or Timtron... (hey, I seen Pictures!) ;-)

You're from Texas and you call five acres a ranch? They're gonna take away your citizenship!
