DG,
Thanks for the info. The only downside I have found to VHT paint is it has a very strong odor until completely cured. If you cannot heat bake it keep it in a garage or outbuilding for a few weeks to keep peace in the family.
My experience with VHT wrinkle has been good and the smell once gone is completely gone.

First try:
'48 Motorola two-way cabinet.
20 minutes old, not dry yet,of course.
Nice color, looks a lot like Hammarlund HQ-129 shade.

ps...the blemish is some crap on the lens I found out later.

Looks pretty darn good from your pictures. Does it have any sheen to it or is it completely flat?

I've found that if a paint (and I mean ANY paint) doesn't smell strongly in the curing phase, it won't hold up down the road.
I always paint outdoors, so who cares about the smell?

Those cherry pies taste so much better when they come out of the oven just after you have cured some paint ! Joe, W3GMS

DG..Yup I've used the black from VHT..is OK..glad to hear they've got gray now..they also make red too..if ur lookin' for another batch of colors made by I think Precision paint..then Kennedy toolbox co has brown/black/gray as well..but but they want BIG $$$ for theirs..for some strange reason they don't sell the red wrinkle as they used to once upon a time..I've got a red wrinkle toolbox from them..seems their wrinkle doesn't smell like VHT if I recall..another source for what used to be "excellent" black wrinkle was the one Harley Davidson stocked at one time in their shops..a couple of biker guys from work told me that they had a white version of wrinkle but no one around these parts have seen that color..just my FWIW 73 de DAVE

Coat after coat of clear lacquer baked on an old stamped steel audio amp chassis at 140 degrees left a nasty odor in the old oven. the new oven is not used for that. Whatever was in 'clear' must be the good stuff. Avoid the 'non-sniffable' paint, it is not so good. The good spray paint is frequently in a locked case in selected areas of town. The amp buyer requested the patina be preserved as much as possible. OK. I like that too, clean them up and spray a coat, bake, repeat... thing is, it ruined the oven after enough uses. And the stench of paint odor was monumental. Suggestion: find an old used oven for dirty deeds done dirt cheap and install a fume hood over it. And not in the house, use the lab/shack/toolshed. gas oven = smooth heat. Because the amps turned out so well I have an article here; http://www.montagar.com/~patj/aph_do.htm It says two coats but I put four on. Can't edit that page any more. It was also not worth ruining the oven for.

Youse guys with oven problems is funny. At least to a guy where afternoon outdoor temps easily are over 100 for 8 months out of the year.
I usually paint on an old table, let it sit out there for a while, and presto. Done free.

Put "it" in the trunk. You'll easily get + 120°. Tell everyone 'its the new car smell.' It works for me.
And the wife can make cookies. Do it for the children.

Dennis,
I'm in the Kern Valley, and we barely hit 100 this year. How did you guys in AK break 100?
Tell the rest of the morning coffee catch on 3880 hi for me. Should be back on by the end of this year. Our over 105 Temps have killed Antenna growing his year.... Lol
