Sussex, July 12th.

Well, since the forum is amazingly up and running at this time of the day, it's a fine time to post something!

Went to Sussex yesterday. The weather was some of the best, in my opinion, anyway, in years; the sun was blazing hot, but the temperature never got much above 80 degrees, and there was a gentle breeze.

I was hoping to find a power supply for my Multi-Elmac AF-68, but if there were any there, they were hiding.

Likewise, for an HEC HT57 500pf doorknob. I was certain that Dave Snyder would have at least one at his always excellent table, but he had none. He'll be at Marlborough next month, though, so maybe he will have one then. I remembered to get his email address this time.

A guy up at the northeast corner of the fairgrounds had a very cool-looking and impressively well-built homebrew AM transmitter on his table, and though I was intrigued, I passed on it.

Looked like it used a pair of 6146s in the PA, modulated by a single tube with dual plate-caps, but I'm not sure what that tube was. The two plate caps protruded at angles from the top of the glass envelope, so I don't think it was an 829. A dual triode, I suspect.

I managed to hook up with a few fellow AMers, including George, N2LJO, and his wife, and Daryl, KD2AFL, but never saw Bear, WB2GCR, who is usually a regular there.

Notably absent was Pete, WA2CWA, whom I always find in the northwest corner of the building. I hope all is well with him.

I kept an eye out for W3SLK, but amongst the crowds and shuffle, we never hooked up.

The friend I rode down with had a fine day, selling several rigs he had been lugging to hamfests for a while, so people were apparently in a buying mood.

Even though I did not come home with much of anything, it was a fine day. Next stop, Marlborough, MA, for the Northeast HamXposition, in August.

Perhaps it might have been a type 815 dual beam power tube?

End of May, I developed a carpel tunnel problem in my right hand. Three of five fingers not really functional. Have been doing orthopedic therapy 3 days per week but looks like surgery will probably be hopefully the answer.
Unfortunately, it looks like I may be developing a similar problem in my left hand.

Making manuals, folding sheets, pulling zippers   has been a challenge and a slow go.

So opted not to go to Sussex; lifting boxes, hand carts, back and forth probably would have aggravated  my problem.

I am sorry to hear about the problem with your fingers.  I hope the therapy gives you relief and improved mobility.

I have had a similar problem with three fingers in my left hand for six plus years; the index finger and thumb are normal.  My symptoms do not limit motor function, but tactile sensitivity is gone, replaced with that prickly feeling when your arm "goes to sleep" after laying on it and limiting circulation.  My prickly sensation is 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for over six years now.   After MRI scans of the hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, shoulder, and neck, the radiologist localized the cause to be an entrapped ulnar nerve in the neck.  Unfortunately, to attempt to resolve the issue by surgery exposes more risks than potential benefit, so I decided to leave well enough alone.  It makes metalwork, PC board population, and wiring much more difficult, and touch typing with no feeling causes the two hands to be typing out of sequence, the result looks like Lysdexia, the opposite of Dyslexia.  

I hope your situation may be resolved with therapy, and hopefully minimally invasive surgery.  Take care, make the best of every day.

Sorry to hear about your hand problem, Pete. You made the right choice, though; no need to make things worse.
