There was a nice path from the east coast to Europe this morning. I'm not sure how long it actually was open, but I caught the last half hour or so from 10:30 AM (EST) until around 11:00 AM. I made a short recording of my friend Glenn - G8NOF as we were messing around with various settings. The link to YouTube down below is a short screen capture with audio of one of Glenn's transmissions. There were several signals showing up in the panadapter as we chatted. Maybe the band will surprise us and start opening up more often...

I've been meaning to get on. The SFI/SN numbers have been going up for the last 4-5 days now. 167/144 today!

I slept late this morning and missed the opening but I was on 75 at 2 AM so I did get my radio fix for the day.

It's all about getting that "fix" Pete! Steve, the SFI/SN numbers are the best I have seen for this cycle. I won't pretend that I understand the "A" and "K" factors, but I have noticed when they are close together the bands tend to be at their very best. Today "A" is at 3 and "K" is at 1 which is the closest I have seen them in a very long time.

After the 10 meter band closed to the east it opened up to the west and I had a very enjoyable chat with Rick VE6CQ out in the Canadian Rockies at around 1 pm (EST). Rick was using an ICOM IC-751 modified to modulate the power control FET. Take a listen to it in the attached mp3 file. That has to be the finest sounding IC-751 on the planet! It actually approaches the sound of a Class E rig in my opinion. You can clearly hear Rick's kids playing with their "Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger" set in the background and even that sounded great!

Hope Rick details that modification in the "Modern Rigs" section!

No comparison to a class E rig on 10 because there ain't any yet.

Good to hear the band is opening.

Locked and loaded.
