Some time ago we had a thread inquiry/discussion about anyone on AM from Antarctica.
From the ARRL DX News, dated 1/3/08:
ANTARCTICA.  Ludwig, ZS6WLC is QRV as ZS7BYRD from the Antarctic base SANAE IV until February.  He is usually active on 20 meters using CW, SSB and AM.  QSL via operator's instructions.

Here's a quote from the internet:
Ludwich said that he had an AM set (Collins?) with him and wanted to work 80 M Dx with it as he believed that this had not yet been done from Antartica. So look out for ZS7ANT or ZS6WLC/ZS7 on 3.795Mhz AM

Here's another:
He expects to operate SSB on 14180 kHz and AM on 14280 kHz; CW will be supported using straight key. QSL to Ludwig Combrinck, P.O. Box 443, Krugersdorp 1740, South Africa.
ZS7BYRD will be a commemorative station for Admiral Richard E. Byrd's 1930 and 1934 expeditions, where they used the McMurdo Silver crystal circuit for selectivity and the Collins pioneered class B AM modulator for the first voice transmissions to the USA from Antartica respectively.
