Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse is a little more than a mile from Thomas Point in the Chesapeake Bay, seen in this image taken from next to the beacon.
The lighthouse marks the shallow waters of a hardbottom bar jutting out from this point. The depth of these waters is only seven feet, compared to the channel beneath the Bay Bridge at Annapolis which measures a depth of more than 70 feet.
