That's a beautiful antenna! They should do well on 40 meters. It's great band for both local and DX work.

40 meters has indeed been very good at night for both stateside  and DX.  I regularly work European and UK stations on SSB while mobile in the evenings with just a Hamstick and 100 watts from my IC7100.  Of course results are even better from the home station. Early evening conditions up in the AM window between 7280 and the top of the band have been very good with excellent local signals and all over the eastern half of the country. Although I was not in a position to work him, I heard  Brett N2DTS at 20 to 40 dB over 9 from south NJ to my mobile in Westerly RI last night.  No sognifizcnt broadcast station QRM
at all.  I believe Brett was working a station in FL, who also had a very respectable signal.

My career took me all over the world putting up large phased arrays of various types for various sorts of customers.  It was like playing ham radio and getting paid for it.  But never once did it occur to me that I ought to have engaged an orchestra and chorus to be on site to encourage and inspire my crews.
The trouble with being retired is that we now have time to entertain our regrets.
