I posted this over on QRZ also.
I didn't learn about this until today. I knew Phil for a good many years. He could be overbearing, pompous and very technical. One of his favorite activities was pi$$ing off his neighbors in West Creek, NJ during Christmas time by having a 'Santa Claus' crawling out of a toilet!
When he first moved to Shickshinny, he would operate one of 2 Collins 20Vs or a Gates BC-1T from his house in Wolf Creek remotely. I helped him move a Collins 21E along with the ATU and Phasors during a thunderstorm at his home in Shickshinny. He eventually got it on the air and would command a big presence on 1885. When I talked to him this past December, he told me that he had suffered some antenna damage with his Unipole and would need it repaired before the 21E could return. In the meantime, he was doing CW on the other bands. He was 70 years old!
