Had to move to 7.1625 to have a clear spot for CQing....
Well I made 3 contacts... the first was KJ8Z John in OH. I'm not sure what he was running but he first answered on LSB then switched to AM after I said "I am using AM and not copying the sideband station.. if you can use AM please join me!" He actually sounded really good but the QRM was horrible for a while.
Then N2XD John answered my next CQ run. WOW! John the 20V3 sounded EXCELLENT. I don't recall you having the 20V3 last year. I remember the Gates. I think it's AWESOME that you can run it on 160/80 AND 40! What are you doing for a "VFO" for it?
K8UVC, Gary joined us on his recently acquired e-bay special 32v3 that he restored. From what I gathered, we were the first AM he worked, happening upon my CQ and realizing it was AM. It also had excellent audio.
40m is a temperamental beast!! Deep quick fades for only a short time, but strong otherwise.... lot's of SSB DX callers edging in closer and closer. What we need is some more tall ships running AM more often to establish ourselves!
Somewhat frustrating at times but FUN nevertheless!
I may be up early mornings around 5 (6 am eastern / 3 am pacific) before work sometimes and put out some calls.

Great QSO last evening John.I use a rice box to supply the grid drive to the 20V3.I will try and be on 7.160 both in the morning around your time of operation and in the evenings around 7 PM eastern.

Okay John on the ricebox/vfo. I like the idea of a DDS VFO into a small buffer amp to drive a Broadcast or other vintage AM... I love the old school/new school mix but some operators are "purists". I suppose I'll have to download the logging software for the AM transmitter rally and make a few entries. Paul, I was thinking about you when I posted about getting some tall ships in on the action! 73 John

Hearing WA3VJB, W3TIM, and W2JBL on 7.160 +/- though they aren't all hearing each other. Using the indoor Mohawk with the clip lead and short wire aerial is providing 10-20 or S9 signals.

Okay bud... I'm tuned up on 40.... I hear some nearby ssb so if you want to find a slot just put it here or tune around for my carrier... coffee is brewing...I'll be right back.
Everyone welcome!
I'll be on 7.178 AM due to QRM.

John, Tried to break with my call several times but the ssb interference was so strong here it was a bad attempt. We will have to work on something else.

WA4GZK came back to me with a huge signal. FT-5000 into an Alpha. We had a nice long QSO. Was great fun... we mentioned you a couple times and paused between TXmissions but couldn't hear ya John. We'll keep trying! I might not be up everymorning at that time but I will be plenty times. Meanwhile, I'm pondering an 80 meter antenna mast solution.

I still work every other weekend (I do work this weekend) but only 7 am to 7 pm (instead of pm to am). It'll be tight but I am off tommorow and Friday.

Had a blast over the last hour working quite a few stations on 7.160 AM... several fellas with Flex 3000's came to say hello in the am mode.... putting out some calls really does reel some in on 7.160... patience and perseverance pays off!!!
