Title: 6 meter transmitter
Post by: w9jsw on September 21, 2021, 02:21:26 PM
Are there any good designs for a low power 6M am transmitter kicking around? Thinking about a simple one tube AM transmitter either plate or screen modulated.

What old school tube would be a good starting point? I see the 807 being used? Can any triodes be used? I have a couple of 811s and a 8000 in the stash.

Just wondering out loud...

QST has had a bunch of homebrew 6 meter tube transmitters. Also the ARRL Handbooks.

With one tube, you plan on modulating the oscillator?

Cathode modulation with a 11n90 FET  :o is an option...

Not sure how I will drive it either, at this point more of a proof of concept.

Answered one of my questions - use a 6146 at around 600V on the plate... Driving it would not be hard, either.

I like suppressor Grid Modulation for 1 Tube jobs. Here is an old schematic from a Sams book. I did up a 1 tube with an 837 for 75M and it worked great. You do need a negative bias supply, but it is very easy to get happy compared to screen modulation. Other tubes to consider 5763, 6AG7, 837, 814 and the 803. 5763 should work on 6M.
