Title: Pomfret Center Hamfest - Worth the trip from Maine?
Post by: W1UJR on March 16, 2005, 07:31:19 AM
I'm debating driving or riding down to the Pomfret hamfest.

This is a bit of a trip from Maine, wonder if someone could tell me about the fest?

The last time I was in that area (and that was quite a while ago) for a hamfest it was a dinky hamfest.  I don't know about it these days.  They could have been different hamfests altogether.  I may swing through myself since it's 30 or so minutes from my place.

Yeah, its a small hamfest. It gets a good showing of AM'ers usually, and its out in a nice part of the state. There might be a group from the little known CT AM Society or whatever they are called.  I always go there if I can. I have lots of things going now, so am not sure if I will be going. And my truck needs shocks, so it might be interesting if I load it up with stuff to sell. But I will do it if I can. As to whether its worth the haul from Maine? Probably not. It is quite small, but you never know what goodies might show up at these little 'festers. ..........Larry

Made the trip to Pomfret.  It was tiny and crowded.  I didn't come away with anything.  Some boatanchors there.  Some computer stuff. Some junk.  A lot of LED flashlights.  A couple of familiar faces.  Probably wasn't worth the trip in the long run but it got me out of the house for a nice joyride on some nice twisty and turny backroads to test the handling of the new tires on the rice rocket.

Hi Jack,
I do have a bike but I didn't ride it. In fact, it's been several years since I've ridden it.  The last time I was on it I was forced off the road into a small stonewall which I rode through and over and into the woods.  Fortunately, I walked away without a scratch but a bruised ego. The bike needed a little repair work after that incident and it's been stored since.

My wife keeps asking me if I'll ever ride the bike again.  I don't know.  I do think about it a lot cause I do miss it when I do think about it but there are to many wacky drivers these days it seems.  I've held onto the bike with the idea that maybe someday I'll get my nerve back.  But the fear of being killed or permanently injured isn't worth the risk.   I have much more to lose than I did years ago.  I guess I'm getting softer as I get older.

Instead, I took out the four wheel rice burner.  I put on a new set of Bridgestone Potenza RE750's on my Prelude back in the fall but haven't had the opportunity to see how they work on the back roads.  I have to say they work pretty damn good, much better than the last set of tires.  They corner extremely well.  And they complement the suspension work I did the previous year.

Yes, someday if I get the nerve to ride the two wheeler we should hook up.  That would be fun.
