SM-220 w/BS-8 manual gives instructions of how to bring out the IF from the TS-520 & 820, but nothing on the 430. The 430 has an 8.3 IF. Something to do while I plan my trip to Howard's - W3HM to retrieve the 32V3. Fully restored. The 430 has gotten several good reports on AM "for a rice box"  :))

I wrote Kenwood USA, to see if they can tell me where to connect inside 430 to bring out the 8MHz IF.

I have a TS430 and so does Tom, WA3KLR on this forum.  Not at home where I can look at the schematic but both Tom and I made a boatload of mods on that rig when we bought them new in the mid 80's.  We put in the cascade filter that was available at the time. I would have to say of all my receivers the 430 is way up there in performance. I often use it as my AM receiver.

Are you going to DSP the IF?

If no one else responds I will look at the schematic when I get home later in the week. Tom may have some input on this also.

I finally got back to this.

I assume you have the TS430 manual and schematics. Look at the RF unit schematic. At the upper right you will see Q7 and Q43. These are the FM if amplifiers. The IF to the FM board is just above this in the schematic. To the left of that connector is another connector. That would be the 8.3Mhz IF output to the IF unit BUT you also could possibly use the FM IF output for more isolation if it does not limit. You will have to experiment. I assume you are using the IF to an SDR receiver? Note also that there is AGC applied to the 1st IF amp (48Mhz) and since this is derived from later stages you might not want to disconnect the later IF's  when you use the external IF receiver. If you do disconnect it and have overload I suppose you can always just attenuate the input.
